How it works

• Report within 21 days — births/deaths at hospital are reported by the institution; home events at the local registrar (Nagar Nigam/panchayat).
• Online — crsorgi.gov.in (civil registration) for registration and certificate download.
• Late registration — 21 days–30 days: late fee; beyond a year: magistrate/officer order per rules.
• Why it matters — the birth certificate is now the single key document for school, passport, Aadhaar and more.
